Songs that should have never been recorded

1. Jingle Bells -- That Dog that Barks Jingle Bells
-- If you like this song, you need to re-examine your lifestyle
2. After Midnight -- Eric Clapton
-- really....his worst effort EVER
3. Word Up -- Korn
-- Cameo, Yes. Korn, No
4. Sweet Child of Mine -- Sheryl Crow
-- The worst grammy winning song since Don't Worry, Be Happy
5. Don't Worry, Be Happy -- Bobby McFerrin
-- See above
6. Discotheque -- U2.
-- Bono was on some good acid that day. The Village People-ish video could NOT save this song.
7. Super Bowl Shuffle -- The Chicago Bears
-- Tagliabue should have taken the trophy away from them for subjecting the nation to crimes agains humanity
8. Never Never -- The Assembly.
-- Proving that two guys in a garage with an Apple IIe and a Korg keyboard do not a band make.
9. Anything by Huey Lewis and the News
10. Blue Christmas -- Porky Pig.
-- If this song wasn't annoying enough, the producer leaves his mic open and creates his own laugh track over top of the song.

Kudos to the LA Dodgers

Too often in professional sports, we only hear the bad news. The BALCO scandal leaps to mind immediately, as does Wally Backman's legal troubles a month or so ago and several fights/DUIs/domestic disuptes from players in recent memory. Well, Kudos to Javier Vasquez for putting his family first, and Kudos to the LA Dodgers for putting his happiness ahead of their plans for the season. Peter Gammons writes about it here: http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/gammons/story?id=1952688 . Now, let's just hope Steinbrenner doesn't send him off to a less-caring team out west.

I rebooted.......

The TruthCommission so that I can catch up with y'all and be hip and fresh. Now Ive just gotta find the boundary between personal and newsworthy in both of these little projects.

Got my class roster via e-mail today. 22 girls and 8 guys so far. Its gonna be a good semester.

Thanks, Nate

I added links to Lunatic Fringe and Truth Commission. Is anyone else having trouble with the bottom, rounded part of that space under those links disappearing and reappearing?

Also, be careful with the template stuff. If you change templates all of the customizations are erased, such as those links.

Admin status granted to all ...

Everyone signed up so far, I've assigned admin status to you guys.

Pretty much that means that anyone can change the look or links or anything.

I'm writing up a general creed for the overall direction of this thing.

General announcements

I mentioned this to Nate and he said Will had a similar idea (go great thinkers!): everyone involved in this that has a separate blog for their more varied personal interests should let us know. I'm envisioning a "network" of sorts, I suppose, of SGM writers. When Nate spreads the admin love I'm gonna add links on the sidebar to various stuff, with a section for the network. Anyone with particular interests for linked content should drop a comment.

For SGM content, I'm in favor of a free-for-all. Just act like ya been somewhere. I've got the Lunatic Fringe for my sociopathic political ranting, but what I post here will probably be more in line with the Pop Culture lunacy of Southernfried. Or maybe I'll start another Holy War. Who knows what the future will hold?

Southernfried hits the blogosphere

At no point is this blog to be referred to as "a work in progress."

If we're interested, editing the sidebar isn't hard; just check mine and look at the source page. (I'm still learning about this format, so it's not perfect.) We should add a trackback system like the one Haloscan offers and post a creative commons copyright at the bottom of the blog. GIVE ME ADMIN AND I WILL RULE THIS BLOG WITH AN IRON FIST...I mean, I'm up for helping with doing some of the editing on the look and whatnot (good template pick, btw) but I'll NEED ADMIN PRIVILEDGES NOW! Um, yeah.

We might as well archive everything, just for the hell of it. We should also discuss how we're going to deal with this blog, vis-a-vis the board. Obviously there's no point in having an open blog with all the same contributors as the board, because that's what the board is. At the same time, we need to emphasize that this is just a supplement to the board because it might be seen as a break away. Or maybe it is a breakaway. VIVA LA NWO SOUTHERNFRIED!

Test posting right now

I want to give this thing a try out to see what it's like.

I'd like to get this up and going for January; my resolution is to write something everyday. You guys don't have to do that, but I can't wait to see what comes out of your heads.

Some of these early posts may come down, but if something truly inspiring hits, we can keep it.
