Favorite Samoa Joe match
Ok, what was your favorite match of his? He is my favorite wrestler from TNA, hell maybe even all together to be honest with you.
I recently ordered the best of DVD from TNA. I know his stuff with Angle has been good but that is most recent and not available on DVD yet.
Also I will post my thoughts on 2006 this weekend after I have had time to think about it.

He was in an excellent match between himself, AJ Styles, and Christopher Daniels at Unbreakable in 2005. You also would maybe like his match against Jushin "Thunder" Liger at Bound For Glory, again in 2005.
On the Ring of Honor tip, he's in a really good bunch of matches, notably with CM Punk and Bryan Danielson (who ... Will, man, you gotta check that dude out). I haven't gotten a copy of it yet, but he was in a supposedly great match in 2005 against Kenta Kobashi.
Youtube has a match between Joe & an indy superhero named Necro Butcher that is just sick, sick, sick. At one point, he slams Necro on the concrete floor, forehead first. At another point, he executes an exploder suplex from the ring apron to the floor. You gotta check it out.
Here's the Joe vs. Necro match.
THAT WAS A GREAT MATCH. DO YOU HAVE THAT STUFF ON YOUR ROH DVDS. WHICH ONES ARE THE BEST ONES AS FAR AS JOE IS CONCERNED.
AGAIN THANKS FOR PUTTING THAT MATCH UP. I REALLY ENJOYED IT.
I saw that Butcher v. Joe match some time ago and I think it was the first time I ever wondered why someone didn't just pull a gun in a match, because they really weren't fucking around.
Glad you liked that, Will. It's from an IWA-MS show. I actually just stumbled onto that a scant few months ago, and was just ... whoa, blown away by exactly how Josh called it.
To answer your question about the ROH shows, let me preface with this nugget of info: Ring of Honor sells their shows for about $20 on the regular, but they also often run really good sales (my favorite is the prodigal $10 sale, but sometimes I can take advantage of their B3G1 sale ... plus the occasional Free Shipping & %-offs).
I have the whole run of 2004 in ROH, and I'm working on getting 2005. Great shows w/ great matches w/ Samoa Joe include:
At Our Best - vs. Jay Briscoe. You wanna talk "no fucking around?" Briscoe bleeds buckets & buckets of tomato paste in this cage match.
Reborn Stage One & Generation Next: Two Homicide matches. Both segue into each other well, and the former is almost like a "chapter 1" to the latter.
World Title Classic - vs. CM Punk, Pt. 1. Really good first meeting between these two, and some really good crowd interaction which gives a nice break in the action.
Midnight Express Reunion - vs. Bryan Danielson. Seriously, Will, Danielson is another must-see wrestler. This is a mighty dandy match between the two.
Joe vs. Punk II - Exactly what the title says. Legend has it Steve Corino was supposed to face Joe, but bowed out due to schedule conflict, so Punk was added for his rematch & these two turned in one of only 5 American pro wrestling matches to ever earn 5 stars in the nationally renowned Wrestling Observer.
Final Battle 2004 - vs. Austin Aries. Aries is very well rounded in what he does, and Joe showed & proved.
(Don't think that other matches that Samoa Joseph aren't up to par; those are just the matches that are on shows that are very well rounded, with a lot of stuff that's really good.)
Aaaand ... ROH has 3 "best-of" DVDs for Samoa Joe. Just so ya know ...
Click each word for the Best Of Joe on DVD.
(I have the first one, incidentally, and it's great.)
I think that's five American Indy matches to get five stars. I'm pretty sure a bunch of NWA (Crockett-era Flair, natch) and a handful of WWF (pre-E) matches received five stars.
Here's the info from the Wrestling Information Archive:
Before 2004, the last match rated five stars in the US was in 1997. The WWF/E hasn't had a match to achieve five star ranking in the Wrestling Observer since Shawn Michaels vs. Undertaker, Hell in a Cell on 10/5/97. In fact, the WWF/E has only had four matches ranked five stars overall:
20 Mar 1994: Shawn Michaels vs. Razor Ramon (Ladder Match, Wrestlemania X)
29 Aug 1994: Bret Hart vs. Owen Hart (Cage Match, Summerslam)
23 Mar 1997: Bret Hart vs. Steve Austin (Submission Match, Wrestlemania 13)
... and Shawn Michaels vs. Undertaker.
It wouldn't be until 2004 that another United States professional wrestling match would be ranked five stars. In fact, there have been four to date, and one common denominator links three of the four:
16 Oct 2004: Samoa Joe vs. CM Punk II
11 Sept 2005: AJ Styles vs. Samoa Joe vs. Christopher Daniels (TNA Unbreakable)
1 Oct 2005: Samoa Joe vs. Kenta Kobashi
31 Mar 2006: Dragon Kid/ Genki Horiguchi/ Ryo Saito vs. CIMA/ Naruki Doi/ Masato Yoshino (ROH Supercard of Honor)
You dare challenge me?!?
