I saw the placenta story at work today. I thought it was odd that the hospital wouldn't just give her the damn placenta, but not nearly as odd as that she wanted to eat it. I'd heard about people doing that, some sort of ritualistic bullshit I guess. Anyone who thinks eating the placenta is anything other than fucked up probably shouldn't have kids.
As for the China stories, I'd wouldn't be surprised to find out that the original story wasn't a hoax and that the "truth" about it was enforced by the government. China's been having some serious problems enforcing health and safety codes and taken a lot of criticism after the tainted dog food scandal. I think something else happened after that with human food, but damned if I'm gonna search for it.
When I read "Give her the damn placenta," I sounded it out as if Napoleon Dynamite's grandmother said it along the lines of "Make yourself a dang quesadilla."
Didn't China just execute the head of their product safety regulatory agency for making so many mistakes?
