Inspired by Ron's "prank" post ...
When I was going to high school in Cocke County in my senior year, the starting quarterback of the football team was a guy named Jamie Peters. He was pretty good, and everyone had him pegged for college, maybe pro, the whole bag.
Well, during a game he just gets D-MOLISHED, injuring his shoulder. He was supposed to be out for a couple of games, and this included the homecoming game against school rival Jefferson County.
But, even though he wasn't cleared to play, the back-up QB played a pretty solid game, and CCHS won, the final score lost to time.
But the title on the sports page of the Newport Plain Talk? "CCHS Wins At Homecoming With Peters Out."

High school football story

I, oddly enough, have a similar story relating to Cocke County. During my sophomore year, the mighty Dobyns-Bennett Indians made Cocke County our homecoming game. The student council was in charge of putting on the homecoming festivities and their faculty sponsor was a woman who was at least 70 and had somehow stayed on past mandatory retirement. Needless to say, she was out of touch with most forms of reality.
So student council brainstorms the theme for homecoming and they come up with, and Mrs. Fletcher approves, "Choke the Chickens."
The principal, who was not as out of it either missed the meaning of this or didn't want to contradict Mrs. Fletcher (the principal wasn't well-liked, shall we say), so that theme stuck. It was on all the advertising, on the message board in front of the school, and on the homecoming parade floats. Yeah.....the Indians weren't scared.
