Jekyll

Those of you with BBC America need to be watching this show.

A modern day version of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde that sees the main character, Dr. Tom Jackman, as a possible descendant of the original Dr. Jekyll. The main character is played by a British TV actor named James Nesbitt, and he is absolutely outstanding. Rather than turning into an ogre, they give him some facial prosthetics and contacts and let the actor do the rest. At first, they use technology to keep each other in check, but then a well-designed international conspiracy breaks out that is following him and trying to capture him. Something about evolution and all that. If you can get this on cable or see the DVD, take a look. Its worth it.

Speaking of stuff you should check out, and I mean you specifically Ron B, you need to check out Setanta Sports. It's a non-stop barrage of non-American football codes: soccer, rugby, Australian Rules!, and Gaelic football. They focus largely on soccer, though, so you'd dig that. I watch some rugby, which I'm pretty sure is a bar brawl with a football involved, and as much Australian Rules as I can, which is a perfect combination of hockey, rugby and soccer. I don't think it is on cable, but Dish and DirecTV are both carrying it, or you can go to their website and subscribe to it over the net.

I didn't know that Setanta was going over the web now. Rather than paying for my soccer, though, I have discovered the wonderful world of p2p video streaming. Apparently the English Premier League is broadcast to every country on the globe and some enterprising students in Thailand or Taiwan or Korea or somewhere stream the games straight from their satellite dishes to anyone who downloads a generic viewer. Its great stuff.

Oh yeah, TVAnts. That's pretty slick, too. I wanted to watch the ESPN broadcast of Miami vs. Kansas City, but that was blocked out on whatever broadcast was on TVAnts. Although I could have went in the living room and watched that.

The people who created Skype and Kazaa have a program called P2PTV, but I've never used that one.

I've watched a couple of episodes today (apparently part of a marathon), and I've got to say it's quite good. Very cleverly written, and I echo the sentiment that Nesbitt is an excellent actor. I liked a lot of what I saw.

Now, sell me on "Heroes" ...
