Alpha phase
The Ghastly Ones - "Los Campiones del Justicio"
Click. Hear. Review. Discuss. Reconvene next week for another installment.
I want to try and get this new little project off the ground, and have a rotating weekly feature that we can all contribute to. Mike's post about REM confirmed this as a direction I want to experiment with. I have 5 phases that I want to implement before making this a standard feature. So do enjoy this, let me know what you guys think, and hopefully we'll get to do more of it.

Not a bad little track. I don't listen to a lot of instrumental rock music, mainly because I find it easily becomes background noise. Granted, any music can fade into the background if you're focused on something else at the time. I like the reverb-heavy guitar, very reminiscent of Shadowy Men on a Shadowy Planet, the only instrumental band I've put much time into (they're best known for the theme song to the sketch comedy show "Kids in the Hall"). But seeing as how I don't listen to much instrumental rock music, the reverb-heavy guitar could be a generic staple of instrumental rock.
Well, the plan right now is just to introduce a lot of different music that I have floating around. And of course, to eventually open the doors for all of us to trade music tastes back and forth.
But glad you liked this installment ... this one reminds me of those luchadore films, and geing a fan of surf rock, this is straight peanut butter & chocolate for me, man.
That track was cool, I'm a fan of instrumental music, a) cause I like music and sometimes just want lyricists to shut the fuck up, and b) I can have music on and still be able to think and not be distracted. This joint reminded me of an, albeit more "produced" version of Shadowy Men or maybe a much more produced version of Man Or Astroman.
There was a group somewhat similar in this vein called Los Straightjackets whose video I saw on MTV2 one time when I was about 19 and never saw again. They were luchadore masks.
Good idea for a weekly, Nate. Discussion of music is always a good thing.
Thanks. I agree, music discussion is always welcome.
I have 4-5 Los Straitjackets albums. It's all surf rock, and they have a sound and style of play that actually distinguishes them a bit from most surf rock instrumentalists. They did an album of old rick covers that was pretty good, and they also collabed with Eddie "The Chief" Clearwater on an album that was pretty amazing.
Maybe down the road, if we continue to do this music thang, I'll throw up the Straitjackets live version of "My Heart Will Go On," that, according to the Straitjackets' website at the time, made Celine Dion retire.
So I gave it a listen and I'm impressed. I don't normally like much instrumental rock. I can't listen to Clapton's "Layla" beyond about 3 minutes because that instrumental part at the end just drags and drags. I thought this group did a good job of wrapping it up without dragging on to long. I also liked the concept of this group of Luchadores as some sort of Justice League (I assume that is what the song title is about) and long for the days of the La Parka movie. La Parka saving the world from Ricky Morton would be top drawer cinema in my book.
