Apathy is the classic case of how "hanging in there" pays off. When I first caught wind of dude in the early 2000's, I didn't much care for him. I wasn't big on the battle rhymes and in interviews to me he came across as having to prove he was the LONE white backpack rapper who was "legit." However his BFF Celph Titled I dug from the get-go, even though snobby elitists consider him the lesser of the two.
However...
...over time, kid got NICE. Nice enough Atlantic signed him in 2003 (and has yet to actually release an Apathy album). His rhymes and swagger improved drastically, and he started doing what I call "concept" songs that were pretty goddamn creative.
And I must say his 2006 album Eastern Philosophy not only crushes ABOUT everything else released that year, but has crazy replay value, and I spin it on the regular. You might even go as far to say he's one of my "current favorites" (along with Sean Price).
Apathy can now kick me $10 for the positive review, lol. But seriously, at the very least he released an album of the utmost quality. Eastern Philosophy will not disappoint.
Thanks a lot. I trust Amazon customer reviews very little, so I wanted to get some feedback from someone who I actually trust their judgment. Appreciated.
