[College Football! Early season assessment]
[Well I just got finished watching the USC Ohio State game and I must say I feel privileged. I have seen the best team...well since probably USC's last great team. I'm a die-hard Buckeyes fan and I never pick them to lose, but I can honestly say I had that feeling before tonight's game. Wells or no Wells they were in trouble. Southern Cal is like a V-12 engine running on super premium gasoline. If they lose a game this year it'll only be because they got bored or paid off. My earlier prediction was for Ohio State and Clemson to play for the title. Since Ohio State ran into the grid-iron equivalent of 2000-era Triple H and Clemson lived up to Josh's prediction of sucking it hard against Bama in week one, I'm gonna make a revision: USC will play their own second string in Miami for the National Title and win in overtime.....USC-Oklahoma anyone?]

I am a Clemson fan but we do lose games that we should not. I have no idea what it is like to pull for a time that wins games like Ohio State. I am just still in awe that Carolina only lost to Georgia by one touchdown. Bottom line--I will never bet on college football!
As long as Florida gets Percy Harvin back for the rest of the season to make sure Our Lord and Savior Tim Tebow doesn't have to carry the entire load, that's your USC killer.
Georgia's Matthew Stafford is wildly inconsistent and one of the reasons I thought the pre-season hype for Georgia was incorrect. They got hot at the right time last season, but they're not a top team.
Oklahoma is running people over, but we've seen this movie before. However, Sam Bradford may not be the colossal choker that Jason White was.
Missouri is a video game team. Impact QB Chase Daniels goes deep to Impact WR Jeremy Maclin for a TD. Rinse, repeat. They may be missing some spots.
Top 25:
1. USC
2. Florida
3. Oklahoma
*I don't think there's any real separation between these three teams yet.

Why does Charlie Weiss always try to start rumors that he's leaving ND for the NFL? Nobody's asking Charlie! Win some games first...But I digress. I'm gonna go ahead and stand by my earlier statement that Missouri and Georgia are kind of in the same boat. You can't talk national title until you win your conference. I don't see Mizzou beating Oklahoma. The Sooners have the defensive speed and know how to contain the spread offense. Georgia didn't look very impressive in the South Carolina game either. Of course I've heard from some SEC fans who will say that the simple fact of being in the SEC east would make the Gamecocks a viable candidate to win the NFC if given an opportunity.
My Week 3 Low Points: USC making sweet, sweet love to THE Ohio State University, Purdue blowing it against Oregon, having to look at Jimmy Clausen's face on national TV
My Week 3 Hi Points: Watching Terrelle Pryor making USC's defense look slow...hopefully a sign of things to come, watching the team that beat the Vols last week get blown out 59-0 by BYU, and finally seeing Charlie Weiss break his leg. "As he was carted off the field he reportedly muttered "I'm not going back to the NFL...."
My new top 10
1. USC
2. Oklahoma
3. Florida
4. Missouri
5. LSU
6. Georgia
7. Texas
8. Wisconsin
9. Texas Tech
10.Ohio State
I hate to see people getting injured, but seeing Charlie Weiss get rolled from behind by his own man was outstanding. Hope MCL and ACL reconstructions take better with him than gastric bypasses do.
Florida needs to watch its overconfidence. The student body is under the impression that we are already ACC champions. I don't think Urban thinks that yet, but they better keep their guard up going into Knoxville.
In an unrelated SEC note, how does Sylvester Crum still have a job?
I think Weis' leaks the NFL rumors so that Notre Dame fans will feel lucky to have him. They certainly aren't feeling lucky when they barely beat San Diego State.
I give teams credit for tough games in any conference, because there is a passion and familiarity you don't get against non-conference opponents, but if Vanderbilt can hang 24 on South Carolina, Georgia should be able to score at least 20. The SEC-blowjobbery hit maximum absurdity with Auburn retaining a Top 10 spot in the AP and USA Today polls after a 3-2 win over Mississippi State. That's retarded; Top 10 teams are not involved in games with a final score of THREE to TWO. Not since 1936, anyway.
My low points were Ohio State gagging on USC, Purdue not finishing off Oregon, and South Carolina not getting it done against Georgia.
The high points were the ACC getting some pride back by Maryland coming out of nowhere to knock Cal off and North Carolina powerhammering the shit out of Rutgers.
Florida needs to watch its overconfidence. The student body is under the impression that we are already ACC champions.
I don't know if that's a typo, but it's funny either way. Speaking of, there are 3 undefeated teams in the ACC and two of them are in the state of North Carolina (UNC and Cake Florist). Also, Duke has a winning record right now. I'd put together a ragtag team of misfits and go takeover the ACC, but I don't want to fight Tim Tebow for it.
And Sylvester Croom still has a job because he's actually done a decent job with Mississippi State and it's not like they have expectations there.
Yeah. That was a bit of a slip. I mean, I'm used to UF owning FSU every season, and they could beat any team in the ACC, but yeah....that was a mistake.
