Ok. I want to propose a mini-survey here, just to get some discussion.
We all have our favorite bands and our favorite musical styles. If you were going on a sort of evangelical trip to spread the word of your favorite band and attract new followers, which song would you use? In other words, what is the single best track from your single favorite band.
This doesn't necessarily mean what is your favorite song. Groups that absolutely suck it for three albums can produce a good track every now and again (i.e Collective Soul). The question is, what is the best song from a band that has a highly respectable, very solid catalog of work.
I'm going to hold off on answering to see where this goes. Maybe we can drop down some debate on this one. If it doesn't work, I'll throw up the standard "Best Album of the 90s" question so Josh and I can get into it over "Nevermind" versus "Jagged Little Pill" again.

I'm gonna meditate on this for a bit to get an answer, but I don't recall getting into it over "Nevermind" vs. "Jagged Little Pill." Though I gotta say, that's the musical equivalent of Undertaker-Snuka from Wrestlemania VII.
This topic does relate to my theory that any truly talented musical act has one song that will unlock their entire catalog for you, no matter how much you dislike everything you've heard by them before. "Cigarettes and Alcohol" by Oasis and "Higher Ground" by the Peppers did that for me. "Birdhouse in your Soul" by TMBG, too.
The "Nevermind" vs. "Jagged Little Pill" debate came from That Other Site when you said something about dumping a truck full of Nevermind CDs on anyone who didn't think it was the Album of the 90s.
Take your time for the answer. A new job popped up and I'm busy throwing the application down. I'll give my answers when I'm done.
It was almost automatic for me to say "By The Time I Get To Arizona" by Public Enemy. But thanks to the raping of Flavor Flav by VH1, I wouldn't go on any kind of trip to spread the word about this once-great rap group.
Now, I'd probably have to say "Bales of Cocaine" by Reverend Horton Heat.
You think "Arizona" is better than "Shut Em Down?" I'd put it and "Welcome to the Terrodome" above "Arizona."
Haven't heard the Horton Heat one. I'll have to check it out on Napster, but they will probably won't me to pay for it, and I'm not about to do that.

Blasphemy~! No, actually I agree, since the song is sorta dated now, considering no one these days really gives a shit if Arizona celebrates MLK Day.
Although, this is probably a situation where I'm putting the song over due to the strength of the video ... which is incredibly militant.
Although, I'd probably say that "Black Steel in the Hour of Chaos" > those other two joints you mentioned. My opinion though.
(Unless you're talking about the Pete Rock remix of "Shut 'Em Down," 'cause that is pretty sweet.)
