[TOMMY BOWDEN FIRED] [I know there has to be opinions on this one. I say good riddance to bad rubbish. To quote Jerry Seinfeld "A little too much chlorine in that gene pool."]
My brother-in-law is thrilled to say the least. I was visiting my sister's family this weekend when it was announced that Bowden's reaction to the Wake Forest loss was to bench Cullen Harper in favor of Willy Korn and the response amongst Clemson faithful on the Internet finally solidified into a call for Bowden's termination. Rumor has it Bowden was told that he would be fired if Clemson lost to Georgia Tech this coming weekend, so Bowden resigned. The official story is that he offered his resignation out of the blue, but I doubt it.
Even better news is that Rob Spence, he of the fuckwit offensive schemes, was terminated as well. Look, with five brand new, inexperienced offensive linemen the key to developing them in the field is slimming down the offense to something simple and traditional. Sets with two tight ends or a blocking fullback might help James Davis and C.J. Spiller run the ball past the line of scrimmage and give Harper a few seconds to find an open receiver. Expand your schemes as the players show an aptitude for the basics. They don't teach Algebra in kindergarden for a reason.
I thought Harper's response to Bowden's firing was hilarious: "he deserved it." I don't blame Harper. Bowden apparently has a long history of shuffling off blame to other coaches and players; benching Harper in favor of Korn was a very clear case of throwing someone under the bus. Clemson fans have been clamoring for Korn since his senior year of high school; he's expected to do great things, but anyone who has seen any of Clemson's performances this season knows that Harper isn't the problem.
With the first half of the season behind them, Clemson's best reasonable hope is a winning record and a respectable bowl invitation. Winning the Atlantic Division isn't mathematically impossible yet, but it isn't likely either.
I totally agree. I am a Clemson fan and go to the games. I do not think that their problem's stem from Harper. I am doubtful that they will be able to win out the rest of the season. They are capable of doing it, but I will have to see it to believe it.
