The Roots

I enjoy "The Roots" music. I saw recently where they are the band for Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. I thought that was rather odd. Do you consider that the Roots has sold out? OR do you think it is a good move for the group?

I'm going to have to go with "sold out" on this one. But ... geez, that's kind of a hard one to justify. I actually enjoyed Jay Leno more when Branford Marsalis was the band leader, until they had their little falling out. And I dig Max Weinberg on Conan.

Maybe if the Roots were to be the house band for Conan or someone who's show I'd consider a bit more "upscale" (which is definitely not Jimmy Fallon), I'd consider it a good move, but in this case, I think they're legacy will be a bit tarnished, especially if Fallon's turn at "Late Night" is going as badly as every pundit seems to say it is.

The scenario I envision is that Fallon will continue to fuck up, he'll get fired, and the Roots will be replaced by whatever house band the new host opts for.

Fallon is struggling but of course he is new to it so maybe he will get better as it goes. He does seem like he is uncomfortable.
