Celebrity birthday-aug. 3

Today is John Landis. I love a lot of the movies that he has directed and who could forget the Michael Jackson "Thriller" music video? What is your favorite Landis movie? Why?

Big, big, big toss up between "Blues Brothers" and "American Werewolf In London." Both have very much to recommend them, and for me both are very much in "desert island" range.

I to this day have yet to see "Animal House" all the way through; however, I've seen enough parodies and spoofs of it that I feel like I've seen it at least twice. Kinda like Hitchcock's "Rear Window," when I saw it for the first time.

See you next Wednesday!

"See you next Wednesday" is Landis' gimmick. In every film, there's some reference to this phrase, a nod to Stanley Kubrick.

In "American Werewolf," it's the title of that porn movie. In "Blues Brothers," some cops are sitting behind a billboard with this phrase on it. In the "Thriller" video, it's uttered by the cops in the werewolf movie that Michael and his date are watching in the beginning.

So it was just a reference to that little quirk in Landis films. It's not in every one of them. There was a time when I'd watch Landis' films just to spot the references.

And, I didn't know that Landis did the film "Innocent Blood," an interesting vampire-mafia film.
