Southern Words that Should be Banned Forever

Sometimes, when I read the hometown paper site, I see words posted by others that need to be banned from general use.

Today's word is "papaw." In E. Tennessee, this means grandfather. I absolutely loathe the sound of this word and shudder every time I see it written. It is "grandfather" or "grandpa," not papaw. God that sounds terrible.

Here's a great one that I had never heard until I got to South Carolina: "Meemaw," meaning grandmother.

I don't know what I hate so much about it ... I suspect that it's got something to do with its similarity to the sound of a braying ass.
