Since that other site has made its feelings known

This is the soccer highlight of the first week of British football:

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-6350551520137715640&q=Ben+Thatcher&hl=en

It is so bad that the guy's own team has suspended him for the next game. Apparently drive-by elbows aren't well-liked in soccer.

At the Lander University library

I have to rely on as much public internet access as I can, so I'm here, slumming it at the place I used to adjunct profess at a scant year ago. Could use some of that free money right about now.

Anywhy, I have a nice little weeklong vacation from work next week, so I plan on mowing a yard for the first time since I was thirteen years old. The house is pretty damn swank, although getting everything arranged to the way I want it is becoming a bit of a wank.

We have this bird that likes to hide out under our awning over the side porch. He's pretty cool, and he's gotten used to us coming in and going out like mad folk. I have a bird feeder that I'm hanging up for him this weekend ... Oh, what, like all I ever talk about is "fuck" and "DVDs" and "shower thoughts." I have a soul too, dammit, I HAVE A SOUL~!

Peace out, chickenpoops; hopefully by this time next week we'll be on Abbeville time.

Celebrity birthday-Aug. 17

Well for today I could not narrow it down so we have two. Sean Penn and Robert DeNiro. I love Deniro in "Cape Fear" and Sean Penn was great in "Mystic River". I love that both these actors ahve been around for a while and can do both comedy and drama. Who is your favorite of the two? Why?

Commencing radio silence ... soon!

We're inching ever closer to the moving out date (the 19th), and after tomorrow I'm probably going to be scarce for several days, until I can get internet restored to the new secret lair.

So, until we meet again ... which should be sometime next week.

Oh, how I love moving

This would be the week, assembled members of the Mad Scientific community, that I disappear from one location, only to reappear in another. And while I look forward to the change, I despise the work involved. Whoever said "getting there's half the fun" apparently paid a moving company.

Much of my shit is in boxes as I type this. I've boxed up more clothes, DVDs, CDs, video games, game systems, books, comics, busts, statues, action figures, furniture, magazines, and assorted other items than I ever even thought I owned. Hell, I think my wife's in on of these boxes somewhere, 'cause I haven't seen her for the past fifteen minutes.

It sucks in a way ... well, it sucks in many ways, but I only thinking of one right now ... 'cause I'm eager to move, but I missed that TNA show in Anderson for this crap. And, another suck that comes out of this, is that I'll probably miss Summerslam on PPV for moving that weekend.

Alright, I got a rug to roll up. More back-breaking shit to do.

Alfred Hitchcock. Good Evening!!!!!!!!!!! I love Hitchcock. I am sure James Stewart loved the man as well. My favorite Hitchcock movie would be "Rear Window", but take into consideration that I have not seen all his films. I loved his show as well and I believe they are available on DVD.

I know some of you are Hitchcock experts so I am asking that you rank the movies you have seen by him from favorite to least favorite.

A semi-virtual tour of the new house

Okay, you come in the side door from the driveway, and you'll be looking in our kitchen area:

Just look at that counter space! I might actually start doing more cooking, now that I have a fair amount of space and live < 5 min away from work. The outlets are taped off for painting duty, in case you're wondering. In the upper right corner, you see a cabinet that's taped off. One of our ideas was to paint the inner "gutter" area of the cabinet the same shade of blue as the walls in the living room. I don't think we're going with that idea now, but we haven't taken the tape off yet. Knowing both of us, it will probably be up for Halloween.

If you turn to your left, you see our fireplace. The jacked-up areas in the wall are where the previous owners had a shelf hanging over it, underneath which was the flat screen plasma television, and on top of which was the cable box. There's an odd outlet in the wall because of that, and, of course, jerkwad set it up so that the only cable hook-up in the room is, yep, over the fireplace. We'll be getting that fixed, soon enough.

So, this is the living room. The blue walls are what we're converting the room to; it was a nice shade of institutional green. The previous owner was a contractor for Abbeville's new hospital, and we're thinking that more than a few supplies happened to be "stored" at our new house ... as such, we have some suspicions about where the color scheme came from.

The main sitting area, where the couch will be ... Honestly, we have just gotta do something about those blinds. We're looking at some dark faux1 wood blinds, to match the door & fireplace trim. The white trim around the windows and floor, we're gonna turn to a dark blue.

1You wanna get in an unnecessary argument, just for shits and giggles? Keep pronouncing "faux" as "fox," and then debate it like you're dead certain that you're right and the other person is wrong.

I bypassed the guest bathroom and took you straight to the crapper in the main bedroom (you know, where the magic happens ... the bedroom magic, not the bathroom magic, for all the virgins in the house). We might just be converting the shower into a standup format only ... that'll come in time. Hopefully, it won't take so long that by the time it's finished, I'll be so old that I'll need a stool to sit down while I wash out my chattahoochee.

The dresser that we got with the house, and it's a pretty nice one. Check out those hardwood floors ... that's pine there, baby.

This is the sight you see when you get the fuck out my house. That other door you saw in the living room a few pics up was the front door; this is the side door. That light is really low-hanging ... it's measured at being about 7" from the ground. Kidding aside, it comes to just under my nose. An aside: Okay, look at the green in the walls. That's what we're painting over. Now, try to tell me we made the wrong decision.

I tried to put those pictures together to give you some perspective on the span of the bedroom layout; this is actually taken in the office, which has the only closet. There's actually less junk in the other bedroom, but I wanted to include that purse in the pic, because that thing was a present to the wife, and it cost more money than what she has in it ... HAHAHAHAHA!! 'Cause we're poor! HAHAHAHA!

Okay, you see me, and in the background, you see my wife. So, who took the picture, you ask? Oh ho, let me tell you. I was holding onto the camera while she was painting, but I was feeling bored so I started taping over the trim ... just trying to helpful, ya know?

She: "Hey, honey?"
I: "Yeah?"
She: "Could you come here for a minute?"
I: "Sure."
*thud*
*klik*
I: "Mother-FUCKER!"

Good times.

Soliel Moon Frye. I admit I watched "Punky Brewster" when I was younger and I never dreamed she would grow up to be a hottie. I mean Punky has some mighty fine Brewsters if you know what I mean. To further my status as a dork, I remember when she was on an episode of "Saved by the Bell" and acted like she was in love with Screech because she wanted his secret spaghetti sauce recipe, which turned out to be a recipe from Ragu or something like that.

What are your thoughts on this actress? Her brother was in that cool show called "Explorers, I think where he and his friend or brother -don't remember-would go back in time and stuff.

Loni Anderson--believe it or not turned 6o today. Anyway, I remember watching "WKRP in Cincinatti" and being all about some Loni Anderson. I felt like Herb Tarlick trying to get a piece of the action. I can honestly say that I do not know much else about her as far as tv or movies go. I know she was in a show called, "Easy Streets" where she lived with her old uncle and his friend or something like that.

So, go hit up your local Dollar General ...

... or Big Lots, or Family Dollar, what have you. Shitloads of DVDs, all at impossibly low prices.

I posted some kung-fu films I found a while back, but recently, I also found the "Tattoo Connection" (Jim Kelly brings the "black six million dollar man" awesome) and "Pieces" (Italian splatter horror), at $1 apiece. Stumbled upon "Kung Fu Zombie" a few days prior to that for about $2.50. And, in the piece de resistance, "Glengarry Glen Ross" at Big Lots.

In a complete jacking of my own post, to save some folks the trouble of doing it, ya'll best believe that the swan song of the PS2 is coming, faster than you may want it to, given that the PS3 is going to be weighing in at approx $600 and for that reason alone there's no way in hell I think I'm going to get one. So mark these dates on the calendar (subject to change, like a WWF PPV, 2006 style):

9/20/06: Yakuza (A Japanese GTA, and why not, since we've had the London GTA - "Getaway" - the West Coast GTA - "True Crime: Streets of LA" - and GTA in the '30s - "Mafia" - except this one might be different 'cause it looks like it might not be shit.)

10/6/06: Mortal Kombat Armageddon (Every Kombat fighter from MK1 to MK6 ... including the shitty ones ... in their little 3D style of fighting. Could be the last good MK game; "Shaolin Monks," I think you hear me knocking.)

10/10/06: Justice League Heroes
- and -
11/3/06: Ultimate Marvel Alliance (How cute, duelling RPG superhero games. "Ultimate" is made by the folks behind those "X-Men Legends" games; "JLA" is made by folks who made "Tomb Raider."* So how Batman's going to scale walls with big bouncy jugs, I'll never know.

*It should be noted that a Reservoir Dogs game is coming out too, and given that "Scarface" and "The Godfather" got/are getting the game treatment, it seems that the crime film trifecta is complete.

12/1/06: Bully (Really?! You mean it?? After being slated for 2005, then Spring '06, then August '06, now December? Yeah, we'll see.)

2/2007: God Of War II (Did you know that there's a sex mini game in God Of War I? Yep, and it totally gets missed by the detractors of the GTA series. Stupid bastards. So hopefully, we see more gouging out Cyclops' eyes, gutting Harpies, and more Greek titties than you can shake a trident at.)

Celebrity Birthday--Aug, 2

I am going to start a daily blog on celebrity birthdays and pick a celebrity i would like to discuss who has a birthday on the day the blog was published. The celebrities do not have to be alive.

Today is Carroll O Connor.

I really enjoyed "All in the Family". I liked how it would express a guy that was fed up with is surroundings and reflected racism during that time. The show pushed the envelope and was considered a classic. His chair is in the Smithsonian museum.

"In the Heat of the Night". He displayed that he could be a dramatic actor as well. I also know that during the show his real lief son commited suicide and he was also a star on the show.

What other memories or moments would you like to share on Carroll O' Connor.

Who will I pick for tomorrow , Aug. 3?

Summerslam

What are some guesses on what the other matches may be for Summerslam? I think we will have a three way match for the IC belt--- Carlito, Benjamin, and Nitro --a return match from RAW.

Also, Mysterio versus Chavo, which leads me to wonder who Booker T will defend his belt against? Lashley

Of course, Foley versus Flair will happen---Hell in a Cell anyone????

Highlanders versus Spirit Squad--yeah--we would all win with that one.

Big Show versus Sabu

What are your ideas.

I almost forgot ... the real house

The front of the house: New doors were installed prior to the purchase. I'm gonna need another mailbox, 'cause the current one you see is way too small for my online purchasing needs. Off to the left is a little pathway that will need some landscaping attention, just to keep the trees from overtaking that side of the house. You can just barely glimpse the driveway on the right, where my car is sitting. I'm taking the picture from a small paved area that acts as a mini-driveway, since the driveway we have currently accommodates cars in a single-file line at this moment (that will change pretty soon).

The right side of the house: In the upper right corner of the house frame, you can see our perpetual floodlight; until recently, we couldn't figure out how to turn the thing off. It took flipping almost every switch in the house, only to find out that it was the switch that you would have expected it would be (in the kitchen). To the left of this photo, you'll notice two windows; those are in the living room. What you don't see is one more window to the left of the window on the farthest left of the picture. Up top, in the previous picture, notice the two windows in the front of the house. Now, on the left of the house, there's another picture window from the living room. That's six fucking windows, man. That's a shitload of windows for one room. It was getting darker, so please forgive the lack of pictures of our backyard for the moment.

The kitchen: Ah yes, here we have the one minor source of complaint we had before buying ... the short ceiling. For perspective, I am about 6'0" even, give or take .5" in either direction. My forearm is as long as my shoe (hey, we didn't have a tape measure at this time, okay?), which is a size 13. So, the ceiling is roughly 7-7.5' high. Now, this rocks when it comes to being able to change lightbulbs without a stepstool, but it sucks considering that there are four ceiling fans in various parts of the house. Yep, ceiling fans ... I'm looking at a bruised forehead on at least four separate occasions, unless those come down or I'm walking around hunched over. Now, in this pic, also look at the door frame-to-my head ratio. Yep.

But, still to come are the pics of the swank hardwood floors, the big kitchen, the backyard, and the living room w/ fireplace. I put the last pic in because some folks wouldn't believe me about the ceilings without some points of reference. I'm not expecting anyone beyond 7'0" to visit us (Will, you might just be the tallest person I know that would visit), so you guys won't need to feel like you're in the Keebler tree when you visit. Oh, and I'll let you guys know when the DSUEH (Don't Show Up Empty Handed) party is (some people call it a house warming party, but we all know the truth).

A true underdog story

For a really cool unimportant human interest story, check out the exploits of FC Roma Dallas. They are an amateur soccer team that plays in the "North Texas Premier League," every Sunday. I assume that this is what we would call a city league team in softball or baseball. Anyway, by virtue of their membership in something called the US Amatuer Soccer Association, they were entered in the early rounds of the U.S. Open Cup. Apparently it is just like the British FA Cup where all teams can enter and, as you progress, pro teams enter the competition later on up the ladder. The bracket for this year looks like this

http://www.usopencup.com/2005bracket/index_E.html

If you notice, FC Roma Dallas made it from the USASA qualifying rounds into the proper rounds of the cup and have already defeated one MLS team (Chivas USA). They are playing the LA Galaxy next and, if they win, make it into the quarters. I think they have made it farther than any amateur team ever.

I know y'all don't care, but I think it is cool.
